Professor Robert Booy

Professor Robert Booy is Head of Clinical Research at the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) located at the Kids Research Institute (Kerry Packer Building), situated next door to The Children's Hospital at Westmead, NSW Australia. He is a medical graduate of the University of Queensland (1984) and has previously held a range of positions in the UK.

Professor Booy researches severe infections including meningitis and encephalitis caused by pathogens such as Hib, pneumococcus, meningococcus, influenza and varicella. His investigative scope extends from understanding the genetic basis of disease susceptibility and severity to the clinical, public health, social and economic burden of infectious diseases; and means by which to prevent and/or control them through vaccines, drugs and non-pharmaceutical measures.
